40K Squad Maiden

I got another squad done up, so without further ado here's squad Maiden.

Left to right Grey Dawn, Iris Web, Dusky Maiden, Jilly Cooper & Amber Queen.

I replaced the plasma pistol on Dusky Maiden with a bolt pistol.

Grey Dawn in the doorway of a ruin I recently add to my collection.

The window above Iris Webb is what I think sets this piece off & believe it or not is a wheel from a child,s toy.

Jilly Copper the other flamer lady in the squad.

Last but by no means least Amber Queen.

Defender of the faith & with that I'll take my leave but not before as always thanking you for dropping in.

40k Clash of the Titans

Doc & myself got a game in the other night that we been wanting to get in for a long time & with codex Khorne  after dropping well now was as good time & any, plus the Doc had come up with a nice little build up.

http://samesidenow.blogspot.ie/2015/03/awakening.html

Now not been the Khorne player I once was or even chaos for that matter (thanks Phil Kelly) I decided I'd borrow some Khorne daemons from my son-inlaw Ralph, but ended up building the army out of the models I had anyway, still I could summing some of his.

Over the years the Doc & myself have been involved in some classic game both in 40k & apoc, the most resent been the prison break so hopefully is would be another to add to that list.

The omens for this did not start out well as when I was taking Ralph's models out of the car, the case that had no clips opened spilling Ralph's models all over the Doc's drive way & with some of these been metal well you can guess the rest.

A bad start of Khorne & one that would not get any better as the forces of Tzeentch running all over them, so instead of trying to do a none event report or story, I'll waffle on a bit about what for me was the high light of the night (no it wasn't Ralph's model all over the driveway you bad people) using models that have not been on a table top since I don't know when.

To own models like An'ggrath the unbound, spined chaos beast, a blood slaughter & a hell blade on my side & Aetaos'rau'keres on the Doc's side which he informed me was only his second time using the model, is really nothing short of criminal.

Why this is not something I'm really sure of but feel there are a couple of factors involved with the biggest for me been that I don't play chaos these's days did I thank Phil Kelly ? & while the new daemonkin is a nice fluffy way to play an all Khorne army it still carries over into it all the wrong the chaos space marines codex & in a lot of ways makes it worse, at least for the way I'd want to play it.

So does this mean all those lovely models will be going back on to the shelve for another couple of years ? no is the answers to that as I think it's well past the time I started playing 7th ed 40k & by that I mean using all of your models be they be in a bound or unbound list, so coming to a tabletop soon will be the 34th host backed up with some of the models named above, as really it wrong on so many levels not to be using them.

Doc in his writhe up said something about a question been answered & in this game it was but I'll leave you to work it out, clue why does it take 10,000 years for them to come back from the warp.

Sadly all of the pictures for some reason won't load up, well with the way the night went should I be surprised ? lol, but I'll say this much about the game, I'm not sure which killed the more of my models the things in the picture above or the one below lol

Also making an appearance will be my defenders of Vraks a long with their hell hammer super heavy tank as as I've said above it's time to start playing 7th ed for real warts & all, well that's enough waffle from me so well done to the Doc on a chrushing win & my super heavy thanks for dropping in.

40K Joel & E18

I managed to get the converted crusader & an arco-flagellant  painted up, so without further ado let's take a look.

I really happy with the way this guy turned & I've named him Joel, I might add an inquisition symbol on the back of the robe as it looks a bit plain.

This guy I've named E18, painting these guys up gives a nice little break from painting sisters & yet there part of the army.

Well that's it no waffle from me this time out so as always my thanks for dropping in.

40K Squad De Vivre & fluff

As veteran sister superior Alpine Sunset walked down dormitory C on her last rounds of the day of the orphanage   a little voice called out to her " Tell us for the legions of long ago when the heretic   & unrepenting  died at your hands when you fought with the convent of the Black Rose".

Alpine knew without having to look around that the owner of the voice was the young girl of about 7 or 8 standard Terra years brought in by Father Felix last week along with a young mute boy.

Always a kind & gentle soul but as brave as a space marine chaptermaster, Alpine turned smiling & said " why child such tails would come between young folk & their sleep if told at this late hour" this remark was greeted by the moans of a hundred young girls who had hoped that sister superior would indeed tell them a tail.
Summer Time
Picked by the Canoness for those very qualities when she became to old to deliver justices to the enemies of the Emperor of mankind Sister Sunset was put in charge of the orphanage to see to the development of future battle sisters & the job could not be in safer hands as far as Canoness  Margaret Merril was concerned.

The sister superior was sure that what ever story she told would not keep the young girl Eva from her sleep but there was more timid girls in the dormitory, girl that would serve the Emperor not as battle sisters but as sister hospitaller's or dialogus's, not wanting to disappoint the girls Alpine said "I'll tell you how sisters & squads of the Black Rose get their names instead.
Mme Hardy
Having heard this tail many a time before but having to much respect for the sister some of the older girl's turned over on their pillows to try to go a sleep, & after telling you that continued Alpine I'll tell you the story of how my replacement who is still to this day one of the Dominion squads leader brought death to the scourge of Lappin IV.

With that all the girls sat upright in their beds all thought's of sleep forgotten, why some of them had even seen veteran sister Joie De Vivre before, "thank you Veteran Sister" they replied all most as one.
Joie De Vivre
So  she began, when a girl reaches a certain age & has proved her worth to become a battle sister, she must leave behind her birth name & instead pick one for herself from the many from of Rose's, all of which grow here on these very grounds.

From that day until the day of her death this is the name by which she shall be known & if she is worthy enough to become a sister superior then the squad she leads will be so named in her  honour, now you see if you can think of a name of a rose that you would like to pick while I tell the tail Eva she said.
White Diamond
War had be raging for many years on Lappin  IV & indeed across the whole Ordon system but try as they may the force's of the Emperor  where losing planet after planet, "The sister of the Black Rose had by this stage been fighting on Lappin IV for just over two years but by this stage it was only the main continuant which ran mainly a long the planets equator, so out side of the cities was very lush jungle.

It was out in these jungles that the Tyranid entity got his name the Scourge of Lappin IV, a massive Mawloc that was costing major damage a long the supply lines, at first it was thought it was numerous mawloc's & it was only after the Machanicum had come up with a device that they shot into the beast to track it that they learned it was only one
Bonica
Alpine looked around her every girl in the drom was hanging on her every word, even with this device now implanted in the Scourge it still managed to bring death & destruction every time it broke the surface & try as they may no one could bring about its demise, that was until Joie De Vivre did a very brave thing.

Out on petrol with her Squad, the scanner in the Immolator picked up the tracker in the Mawloc, now its a well know fact the a Mawloc can detect the lightest foot step on the ground & this is what gave Joie her idea.

Seen a ruined building up a head & order the crew to stop the Immolator & to kill it engines, "this is what were going to do" she said I'm going to get out & run to the ruins a head, drawing the Mawloc after me while you's wait here, no they all started to protest but she cut them off at once & continued,
when you see the beast start to break the ground gun the engines & smash right into it at a fast a speed as you can.

That should hopefully stun the beast & together with the harder ground in the ruins give us enough time to kill it before it can re-burrow  & with that she was gone out the ramp of the vehicle running at full speed to the ruins, on the scanner the sisters watched the blips close in.

Joie made it to the ruin just in the nick of time, & found the ground start to move under her feet & was starting to fine it hard to stay on them, but Joie knew that that to fall over now would be her death, she need to stay upright until the last moment when she would try to leap clear of the danger zone.

Back in the Immolator the rest of the squad a long with the crew watch with baited breath, & the minute they seen the ground erupt shot forward in the machine quickly picking up speed know full well that to drive into the runs at such speed would be fraught with danger, but their sister was a lone up there & depending on them.

At the same time in the ruins Joie made her jump, but did not get far enough away & a large piece of masonry came down on her leg just below her knee sending a shooting pain through the battle sister, Joie didn't need anyone to tell her the leg was broking but she hadn't time to thing on it now.

What only took a moment to take place seemed to all of the sisters to take a lot longer, no sooner had Joie hit the ground then the Immolator came smashing into the Mawloc sending it prone a cross the floor & like a flash the Dominions where out of the Immolator pouring beams of melta fire into the beast, gain her feet & ignoring the pain Joie added a couple of plasma shots from her combi-bolter.

With the Mawloc drawing its last Joie came forward & drove her chain-sword into its neck bring a end to the Scourge of Lappin IV, so Eva have you though of a name yet Alpine asked ?

It just so happens I have sister superior the young girl replied I'm going to be know as Summer Time & when I become a battle sister she said & she smiled a smile as bright as any midsummers day sun,
Alpine didn't doubt for one minute that she would go on to be a battle sister & that Summer Time would be up there with the best of them.
From left to right Mme Hardy, Joie De Vivre, Summer Time, White Diamond, Bonica
Had it really been 23 years ago since that night the young Dominion asked herself ? Summer Time had only ever cried once in her life that she could remember & that had been 14 years ago just before she joined the sisterhood at Alpine Sunset's funeral, the ramp of the Immolator smashed down & Summer Time was back in the here & now fighting the enemies of the Emperor.

Well that it folks as always my thanks for dropping in.

40K Squad Holden gets a Rhino.

Before I start I like to point something out, in my last post I said I picked up a knight in the shop & put up a picture of a lovely painted knight, I hope I didn't mislead anyone, the knight in that picture & in the one below is a club mates who I happen to play the week before & while I wouldn't have mined buying should a nicely painted model I don't think Stephen would have sold it to me.

A while back I said in a post that my aim was to try to get maybe 5 models of a tank or some other thing painted each week, now no sooner had I posted that then the weather got bad & I had a nice little trip away & then there was a bit of side tracking with the nids but fear not I've not forgotten the sisters & have been working away on them none the less.

With winter fading quickly & long days a head I feel I should be really able to put a hole in this army & need to as its part of my hobby to do list.

I'm really happy the way the added sister with the stormbolter turned out & can now look forward to a life where my rhinos will always have a stormbolter.

It does slow things down a small bit as I now have to paint a sister to go with the rhino but its a small price to pay, the squad with the rhino below where the first sisters I painted so nice to have their ride done as well.
Squad Holden & their transport

Well short & sweet this time out, as always my thanks for dropping in.

40K resisting was futile & a crusader conversion

A double header this time round for you good folk, so to kick off with it looks like I'll be doing another 40k army after all with a new codex coming, no its not blood for the blood god I left him behind a long time back.

No what I'm talking about is another god of war Mars or more to the point the Mechanicom, this will be I hope the last 40K army I ever build & one that I've always wanted to do I sat on the fence over doing a HH one for a long time but the problem I've found with FW armies is get them updated, you could end up having to buy the same book again for a lot of money just to get the updated rules.

With it now looking odds on that GW are going to do something on the Mechanicum front I've just falling over the fence on the lets do it side & to celebrate I even picked up a knight last night in the shop, I don't know if there will be any knights in the dex but even if not their the perfect allies.

Ok part two of the show, something I think I might have brought up before is having to have the same model in a squad, a real problem when your running what is more or less an all metal army which the SOB's happen to be, now while there's not really a lot I can do about the sisters themselves I can with some of the other models, on this occasion a crusader.

I've two of these models & if ever a pose was boring this is up there with some of GW best, so no way was I going to have two of them standing a round like this, to start I put a cut between the shield & the arm with my razor saw.

Then I cut between the back of the shield & the leg, you need to be careful here not to cut his foot off, unfortunately the way this model is done it mean the the shield as you can see in the picture below is not complete.

You could use a different shield if you had one but this is a nicely detailed one & it would be a shame not to us it, so what I did was shorten it, as you can see there like 3 ropes or chains or somethink on the shield so I cut the shield up to the bottom of the second one.

I all so removed the hand that was still on the top of the shield, if you don't like filling it might be better to just use a different shield.

The two pictures above are your finished shield front & back, now time to remove the sword.

I clipped out the middle piece & then it was time to start filling, did I mention there's a lot of filling in this conversion ?

I left on the handle above the hand but made it thinner & round so that I could pin the new sword on,
the picture above show what he should now look like.

These a the bit's I'm going to us, a chaos familiar, for the hilt, a plasma pistol, for the hand, & a terminator arm for the sword.

The hand & the hilt are on in the picture above, while in the one below I've added the sword.

I've put these up just to show you that I don't always get it right first time, the sword was fine but when I went to put the shield on it just looked wrong, so a bit of a 180.

I put the sword in the other hand & used a different hilt, put the shield in the hand that the sword had been in which is closer to the body & bent so the shield is in a more neutral position.

Before & after & now look different enough that when painted up on on the table no one will ever think that once they where the same model, anyway that it for this post I hope you found it interesting & as always my thanks for dropping in.
