A slow week but some good

It's been one of those slow weeks you know the kind when you just don't get much time to do stuff, but even on a slow week there can be some good, this time it came with the post-lady .

Now I've got to admit I've not had anything like this since I was a kid, so not today or yesterday.

The script writer has put a plane in the story of an up & coming production, the one in the picture above is as close as I could get to the time in which it is set, but what's a few years one way or another right ?

Sadly I won't be putting it together just yet much & all as the little boy inside me wants to, I stood a 28mm model on it in the picture above to try to give you an idea of how things match up scale wise.

In other news I got a bit of the rock facing done on the mountainous back drop.

Tedious work but worth it in the end I hope, a little over half way done at this stage.

Behind the scene's, A mountainous backdrop

Hello nice of you to drop in, you will have noticed that since the start of the year thing's have been very different on if it wasn't for one's, why there's hardly been a one in sight I know what brought some of you here was the stories & AAR's, please bare with me awhile longer we will get back to such things & when we do hopefully it will be of a higher standard.

Right back to what this post is about that big chunk of insulation board in the picture above,what brought all this about was if you remember the last post about my tree's there was one very big tree I'd made, the problem was I couldn't seem to take a picture of that tree without going out of the model world.

Unless taken from above like in the picture above but that's not what I want nor would I think would you dear reader, like with all thing's I do when I'm starting off I ask myself how can I make this flexible ? what I mean by that is can I make it in such away that it won't seem like the same piece over & over again.

I thing I've away that helps, if you look at the picture above you'll noticed there are level area's here & there, now the reason for this is two-fold one is so I can when needed place models on it the other is I can use this to change the appersion of the piece.

So we go from when it's bare to adding some tree's to change how it looks.

By even changing where the tree's are & all of that's before I even put thing in front of it which will also help.

After all the cutting was done I rufted up the edge's of the board's,

Then sealed them with no not milk but watered down wood-glue.

Next step will be to add these,

their bits of tree bark I got off a dead tree that will make up the rock face, I think you can also buy stuff like this but my way of looking at thing's is that money I don't spend on one thing I can spend on something else.

But first the bad part the cleaning up of all this stuff. I hope you guys can stay with  it through all this stuff in the hope of something better down the road, if not then Grace in the kiosk out in the foyer will give you a refund provided you have a ticket to prove payment of entry that is lol.

Props, the evaluation of my tree's

A couple of years ago I done up some tree's using little branch's for trunk's & lichen, they can be seen here, http://ifitwasntforone.blogspot.ie/2015/05/trees-cheap-cheerful.html
They served me well enough but I wanted something a bit better.

The thing about making your own tree's is unlike the plastic ones in the back round is each tree will be different from the next, I know you can buy tree's that are like one off's but they tend to be expensive.

So a sad looking thing like in the picture above is given a face lift, if you remember in the last post about hedge's I said I'd an idea of another way to do them, well you see what's meant to be foliage  around the tree ?

Here in the picture above the same stuff is used as a hedge, what it is is the stuff you get inside new pillow' or coat's of lot's of other things, it's white but I'd sprayed it green, so I sprayed it with glue & flocked it.

Quite a difference I think, now it alright putting a one off piece like this in a picture but it doesn't really show you much does it ?
So let's throw a few bit's down together shall we

The picture's above are of the different kind of hedge's I made that I showed you in both this post & the last, that' all fine & dandy Frank I hear you say but I thought this post was about tree's.
Well the two kind of go hand in hand & there is two tree's in the picture's above to be fair, which I let the canopy  of grow into one another.

The canopy of the tree's was made from old form I got out of a sofa some lowlife dumped on the ground were I walk my dogs..

Lichen can be sprayed with glue & flocked to chance the above to the below.

The big tree in the first picture as well as some of the other's was made using form but in a more  painstakingly way,

but as is often the case when you come up with an idea, you very quickly come up with a faster way of doing it, as long as you can find an old sofa that is lol.
So how do all of these things look together ? well let's have a look.

 Lichen just thrown about can also add to things, as you can see we've a good mixture of things

 to help bring the surroundings of our camp to life

Prop's, A bustle in your hedgerow

Foliage it's everywhere & to get a set looking right it need to be present, so how to make some that looks good ? I approached it from away I'd not tried before so first off a little test piece.

 Above are the first two pieces I made one was a straight piece, while the second was rounded, there was two aims here one was shape's & the other was the flocking of them, the second I was happy with not so the first.

That's a bit more like it,wild & natural looking as in nature, you see in the wild things don't grow in neat straight line's, by having it looking like it's still growing & unkempt  we get the look we want.

Here's how the piece above was done.

Make your shape from I'use form that's used for storing model's in & added paper clips that I cut up & just stuck into the form, make sure you put little bends in them.

I covered it with a tick white glue & flocked it, for the flock I used a mixture of green, brown & static grass, the static grass really adds to it I think, if you miss a bit just cover it with glue  & flock, after an hour or so I then sprayed the whole thing with boarding mount glue that you would use for making card buildings mounted on form-board .
Model railroaders use scenic cement for doing the same thing the idea is it sticks everything together & helps stop the flock falling off over time, the next day I spared it with cheap hairspray & cut it off the cork.

There is another way for doing things.

Above is one I made earlier

Pick something to use for a base I used cork & I used big paperclips but you could use other type of wire.

Cut the clips to the height you want & put little bends in them

Drill a little hole in the base & glue the wire in

When all the wire in done glue little bits of form in between them low down

Cover with glue & flock

Seal flock & leave to dry, so there you have it my take on doing some foliage, I  have some other ideas that I'll cover in another post, but tbh I'm more then happy with how this worked, cheap & looks good & with the flock sealed should stand up to a bit of use, I hope.

The Evil Below, Pulp Alley AAR

Apophis a terrible evil from Egypt past, tomb has been discovered & deep within the Great Serpent awoke, so comforting it was to know that a league of hero's where willing to risk all to stop this evil arising again,lead by Count Vlad who just happens to be a vampire, confused I bet you are PA enter's the DGG & the game might never be the same again.

Doc's league the grave digger's ( how fitting considering the scenario rolled for, I tell you you couldn't make this stuff up) had but one simple thing to do, grab the major pp which is in the dead centre of the graveyard, but it is not as simple as it looks, trying to stop him was the Servant's of Apophis under the control of Dave.

The game was fast & bloody as be fitting any league made up of a vampire, mummy & other kinds of unsavoury thing's haunt our night's.

 I don't know what kind of lead the servant's where packing but Munny & friend didn't seam to like it

 but pay backs a bitch I've a feeling that after this one the gravedigger will be putting in a few extra hours.

This whatever you might call it had a bit of trouble in finding the graveyard even though the Count had giving it directions.

Walls with doorways in them should never be climb it seems.

The Count & the Serpent Priest are having a bit of a Mexican stand off.

Didn't that statue use to be in the middle of the cemetery ?

 Might be that Pinky would have been better off had it never found the graveyard.

Looks like that wall hasn't become any easier to get over.

This dance is over say's the Count I've more important things to be doing.

Where's that statue gone to now ?

Well look who's found it, now just to pass the horror check, the perils & the PP challenge & it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine, thinks the Count

 Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo & now it gone again & with it the Doc's chance's of winning the game.

Well played Dave & a bit of bad luck Doc, but as both player's really enjoy the game as well as your's truly we all went home happy.
