Tricol, finding inspiration

To get Tricol off the ground so to speak I had to go with things that would be quick to do as coming into this project I really didn't have much terrain stuff I could use, but the more you get done the more  time you can give yourself on building other things.
The picture is from the Dark Heresy RPG & it's the front elevation of the barking saint bar.
You see an extra building or two or other things like say a park can change the appearance of a place very easy, Malice & San-ta shown in the 2 pictures below use most of the same buildings but I'm sure you would agree look very different from one another, with one on the coast & the other looking very much an inland town.

San-ta on sea

Malice somewhere in the mid-lands
Now there's been something I want to do for a long time & the picture above is where I got my inspiration from, you see the 40K universe maybe grim & dark but what a lot of people forget is that it's also guffy or at least it was at one point, & while Tricol is not really part of the 40K universe it where everyone came from, anyway that's what this building is all about, will it come off I don't know but I think it might.

I did a little drawing of the face, changing the ears

Cut that out

& used it to draw face onto some cork

cut that out & drill a few holes

added a snout

Started to work on the front elevation of the building

Adding more detail

Yet more detail, I hate the short days.

The front elevation of the soon to be severed head  & for some reason turning the last picture sideways, but I'm sure you get the idea.
So that where I'm at on this build but to be honest I'm liking it, with some teeth added & some lights for the eye's & to cast a red glow on the doorway I think this will work, so hopefully the next time you see this it will be finished.

Well that's it from me for this post as always my thanks for dropping in & please don;t think I'm barking mad lol.

Tricol, San-ta manhunt, A Pulp Alley AAR

If you new to this site welcome & our story starts here, varihttp://ifitwasntforone.blogspot.ie/2015/05/tricol-first-contact.htmlous & if your not new welcome back
San-ta
By various  means the interested parties had learned that the package for Tech-priest Darrow had been sent from the seaport town of San-ta, word on the street has it that Darrow had put out from this very same port on board a ship named the Lady Ann captain by the old sea hand Captain Quayle.

Several weeks later Quayle & 2 survivors, 1 a crew hand & the other a member of Darrow's party where picked up at sea in a life boat, all 3 where in bad shape & were brought to a near by hospital in which the other 2 died in a very mysterious way, fearing for his own life Quayle escaped from the hospital, now half mad & with a drink & drugs problem he wonders the bars & clubs of San-ta.
What will we do with the dunking sailors, the plot points

Panama Jack & the crew it seemed where not the only one's searching for Captain & with the sun setting on San-ta the search was only going to get harder all the sailors moving about from bar to bar.

It seemed that every bar they got to Quayle had just left a short time before & that others had been in asking about him as well, this is hopeless Jack said Lucinda, be that as it may replied Jack he's our only lead to Darrow right now we must try to find him first.

No sooner had he said that then shots could be hared ringing out from some place near by, this might or might not have anything to do with the old sailor but Jack was will to give odd's that it had.

Unknown to Jack it was the Bash Street gang & the Severed Head lot that where exchanging  fire, as they both tried to get to a sailor who had gone into a storage compound to answer the call of nature.

Added to this was also the fact that Tuco the bounty hunter & a band of mutant's where also out looking the old sea hand, made this a very dangerous night to be on the streets of San-ta.

It was long before there was gun fire & brawls all over the town, as anyone in the streets that even looked like he might be a sailor was been fought over.

In the mist of all this mayhem Adele Blanc-Sec approaches a sailor on one of the peir's, could she have found him at last ?

No sooner does she get to him when she's involved in a gun fight with Shade's of the Bash Street gang.

Mean while Tuco & bane round a corner to spot a sailor who is drawing the attention of an arco-flagellant, pulling out his shotgun Tuco opens fire only to hear the a faint click, dame I've not loaded it he thinks to himself.

Felix spots a sailor watering some plants & goes to have a word with him, but he so drunk that Felix can't make head or tail of what he's saying.

The unknown gets the drop on Maggie but  X4Y manages to dodge clear of his burst of fire.

Given Tuco the change to have a word with the sailor, but it turns out it's not Quayle.

Jack is not fairing much better as the sailor he's talking to becomes very aggressive.

A gang of mutant's head for the pier with Shades laid low.

The local that Jack had hired to help him in the search try's to scale down from a rooftop.

Not an easy thing to do with a 6 foot rifle in your arms, & now in Monty Python fashion time for something completely different.

As the Doc gets quizzed by the local law enforcer lol, right back to the story.

Mr Smith comes for a sniff around & doesn't seem to impressed with what he smells, what does my master want with these men he thinks.

Bane tracks down yet another sailor but before he can open his mouth the sailor put him down with a right hook to the jaw.

late into the night & Quayle still hasn't been found, with the interested parties bawling like stag's in the mating season.

Slick & some of his gang bushwhack Aedel & although she fights the good fight she is out numbered & knock to the ground, turning to the sailor Slick recognises him, got you al last he says we been most of the night looking for you you old bum now come along with me there's some questions you need to answer.

But before he can step off the pier, a load crack is heard & the old captain slumps to the ground, as Slick bends over him he knows there's not point in trying to get him back to his feet, who ever pull the trigger on this shot had been a pro & had put the slug right into Quayle's heart.

With his last breath Quayle lifts his head from the ground & whispers something into Slick's ear.

Designers note, this was our biggest game of Pulp Alley yet with 4 leagues involved, with Paddy playing Jack's crew, the Doc on the hunt with Tuco & the mutants, the infamous Bash Street gang in the hands of Ralph & Adele & the rest from the Severed Head been used by your's truly.

The game as ever was great fun to play & finished with 4vp's to the Bash Street Gang, 1vp for Jack & the crew, while Aedel's & Tuco's mobs ended up with nothing to show for their hard nights work, other then cuts & bruise's.

So well done to Ralph, a big thanks to all the players & as always my thanks to you for dropping in, next stop the perilous island.

Tricol, building better worlds (I hope) 3

Its a jungle out there, well that's what I'm hoping for anyway, as I push on with the PA campaign perilous island so does Tricol come more into been, for as I wrote in another post way back in the long ago Tricol is a very long term project.
Now I'm still a million miles from where I want to be but that's fine but I am getting closer to the stage where I can start laying on top of the foundations, its easy enough to create characters but they need a place to function in & the campaign is an easy way to get things up & running.
As for the jungle pieces there's nothing done here that others haven't done before me so I'm claiming no credit for anything other them having the patience to make them.

Most of the plants are from petshops, but Ikea is also good & those plants balls that people are hanging up out side their doors are also good.
I think these are a very good way of getting good looking cheap terrain & any plants left over can always be used on other terrain project like a park or gardens.
I also made up this little building, a warehouse lockup type, I went with the same style of building at was used for the building in Malice.
The name Shoebridge above the roller shutter is one you should see a lot of as Tricol progress's
What I love about these buildings is their robust, quick to do, cheap & in my opinion look good.
So the building of Tricol continue even if at a slow pace but we'll get there I'm sure, now allowing in game terms the different type of buildings don't do much from one another, but what they do do very well is give a very different feeling to the setting & that for me is very important.

Well that's it for me as ever my thanks for dropping in I hope it was worth your while.

Ship ahoy, a guardian & a nice find

Heading onward with the perilous island campaign we'll come to a shipping town to go looking for a sailor, as I've said many a time before I wanted Tricol to be all kinds of everything as that gives me more modelling opportunity's.

I'd never build a ship from scratch before & haven't build a ship of any kind since I was a child building airfix models which was not today or yesterday I might add, sadly I didn't do any WIP photos, but I must say I found the challenges of doing this project very enjoyible, it must be the carpenter in me as it's made of balsa wood for the most part.

Adding a few 40k bit helped mix it up a bit & create the pasted/future look that I wanted in keeping with how I see Tricol, to help add to that I just went for a wooden pier, I'll have 2 of these in the game.

Even given that we haven't gotten as far as the island yet anyone that has been fallowing this blog will know that I've been getting models ready for that part of the adventure & I've added another who will take the part of the guardian, I won't say any more then that.

The model it's self is nothing to writhe home about nor is the paint job as this s one of them things that I don't see getting much use, so I was never going to put in to much effort on it I will how ever stick it on a clear base.

Been for the most part a Warmachine/Hordes model it did give the different look that I need this to be to tie in with the story, a spat of sliver & a wash of army painter dip later & the jobs a good one.

Last on today's list is one for even further ahead I pick up this piece in the charity shop for 2 Euro (yes my wife thinks I mad) now all I've got to do is make it look like its a couple of thousand years old.

Since starting Tricol my hobby seems to be taking me in all kinds of directions & has me now making & buying things that a year ago I would never even have thought of which is really for me great & long may it continue.

Well that it for me as always my thanks for dropping in & may your hobby take you on an enjoyible ride.

Beastmen & Idol's

Well I got the beastmen finished & based & I happy enough with the look of them for what I want.

As primitive natives in a 40K setting beastmen work nicely if you ask me, now I know you didn't ask me but that's part of the price you pay if you come to my blog lol.

I needed one to be a witch-doctor so had to go for something a bit different, going through the bits box I came across an Eldar head that I think is from FW but might be just finecast, it never ceases to amaze me what us gamer will have lying around as I've never had an Eldar army.

Now as I said in my last post I had some beastmen already but as they had guns I didn't think they really fit the bill, I know now how Lucas felt when he was doing the Return of the Jedi.

I also managed to pick up the little guys in the picture below that I can use for like idols or whatever.

I've been looking for something a long these lines for a while now & when I seen these guys I knew I just had to get them.

Size wise I think they work well & will be nice additions to my games when we at last get to the island in the perilous island campaign, not sure at the moment on whether to repaint them or not.

Well that's me for another post but before I go I'd like to point one a new bolg I'add over on the right hand side, it's called The Minatures Man & on it is some great work by Joskim so why not pop over & have a look, well if you came back my thank as always for dropping in.
