100 models an Inquisitor & friends

Next up in my 100 models in a 100 days is Solomon Lok & some henchmen.
These are not part of his retinue as Lok comes with certain things in his retinue which I'm still working on.
Now I know I could just use IG's for henchmen but where the fun in that ?
Plus if your playing IG's a longside these fellows this is a in a good way of knowing who is who.
Another great thing about doing models like this is I can get to use them in different way plus I just love the way these's guys look.
As NPC in INQ28 or chaos cultists these guys will be handy.
One thing I always try to do is have my armies different so that even if someone else is using the same things as me it will always look different.
This lot brings me up to 43 models done so so I'm nearly at my target of 50.
I will of course keep going beyond that number should I get a chance but as Xmas gets nearer time for modelling will most likely get less.
Thanks for dropping in & please call again.

Doing the (miniature) washing

A lot of people think I like painting models but that's a miss conception, the real answer is I like painted models, models that look good in the hand & on the table.

Now don't get me wrong I'm far from been one of those guys that hate painting & think on it as some kind of punishment, I just find it mundane & would much prefer to spend time making models then painting.

When I put my mind to it I can even paint to a high standard, but I'm very slow, so a couple of years back when my son stopped playing 40k his nid army was just left sitting there.

This to me was a shame as I hate to see models not been used plus the fact I always like nids, but been as I've already said I'm a very slow painter & the thought for painting an army like the bugs with so many models just seemed like something I didn't want to take on.

That was unless I could find a faster way of getting them done while still haven them look good, now up until this point I'd spayed all my models black before painting them but what if I spayed white & used washes on them instead of paint.

So that is what I done & was very happy with the way they turned out, so much so that if I can I'll wash a model instead of painting it & with the exception of the red scorpions have washed nearly every model I've done since
.

I even found that using one wash over another can create the same effect as shading & highlighting, the only thing is that when doing this with washes is you do it backwards, start with the lightest colour first & then put on the darker ones.

A model I've had for a good while now is Solomon Lok from FW ( http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Grey-Knights/INQUISITOR_SOLOMON_LOK_AND_RETINUE.html ) & to by honest have put off painting him as its a model that I love & was afraid I couldn't do it justice.

So the other day I bit the bullet & started work on him I'd made up my mind that with so mush detail on the model I go with washes but unlike a lot of the models I wash go the extra mile using the different washes over one & other & am I glad I went this way as even if I say so myself he's turned out first class.

So if like me painting is not really you thing try doing a little washing, I know for me it's been a big help & while you still have to use paint for certain things been able to wash the bulk of an army is a big help
.All of the models in this post a mostly washed.

So thanks for dropping in & if you decide to try doing a little washing I hope you find it helpful.

The last of the Mutants

I got the last 6 of the mutants finished, which brings me up to 34 models done in the challenge.

Now I said at the out set that if I got 50 done I be happy so I need to get at least another 16 models painted before the big man does his yearly road trip.

So what to do next ? well it just so happens that GW have just released a new codex.

Now the funny part it I'm playing very little 40K these days but GW have decided to update every dex I use one after the other if the rumours are right plus release one that I want to play.
All 25 mutants
So with my liking for doing models like the mutants that I could use in both 40K & INQ28 & the with the new dex been the codex Inquisition it really is a no brainer.
One of the big draw to chaos was things like the mutants where I could just go mad, indeed it's the whole madness of 40k that has me in love with it & few things doe's this madness like the inquisition.

Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor
Just like chaos maybe even more so you can just go nuts.
Inquisitor Soloman Lok

I've got lots of models made that I could us as inquisitor & his warband so that's what I'll start on next.
I more then this lot but this is enough to be getting on with I'm sure you'd agree.
I don't know what happen with some of the pictures above going blue, I was using my tablet instead of my camera & done something wrong I guess.
I just love this guy, you can't see in the picture but he has an ork bikers head complete with goggles under that hat.
If you've been following the INQ28 stuff on the blog you'll have heard of this guy Panama Jack.
Any way this guys will hopefully get me to the 50 model make which will mean I'll have painted a model every two days in the challenge.
I mean what's not to love about a bloke in the 41M running a round with a blunderbuss.
So thanks for dropping in & call back for updates on this lot.

40K mission the camp of the psyker

The camp of the psyker is a little 40k mission I made up using the enduring freedom rule book for ideas.
This mission is really just for a combat patrol size game of about 400pts or could be altered a bit for a killteam game.
The mission objectives are, rescue the hostage (worth 5pts0 which is the prime mission, kill the autocannon team (worth 1pt) kill the mortar team (worth2pts) & kill the psyker (worth 2pts).
You can if your playing this mission & don't have or want to use IG change the autocannon team & mortar team for something else.
Set up, place a maker inside one of the buildings without the attacker knowing which one it in,  the IG set up first, place the mortar team behind a line of sight blocking terrain piece if you can on one side of the compound & the autocannon team on the other side in a piece of terrain.
Place the rest of the army inside the compound, then can be in the buildings if you wish.
The attacker starts on the opposite side of the table & goes first.
the list I used here where as follows
Marines
Two tactical squads in rhinos.
Squad 1, 10 tactical marines. flamer, heavy bolter, rhino with dozier blades total 200pts.
Squad 2 10 tactical marines, malta-gun, missile launcher, rhino with dozer blades & hunter killer missile total 210pts.

IG primaris psyker, mortar team, autocannon team, platoon command squad plasmagun, chimera, infantry squad, heavy bolter,  grenade launcher & an scout sentinel total 405pts.
Small games like these are a great way for newer players to learn the game as doesn't feel overwhelming, they are also good fun for older players to play as well & you can't get two smaller games like this in in the same time as it will take to play a big game.
Its also a good way to see who can do the better at the mission as you can change sides for the second game.
For this post I was going to use SoB's but I really really need to do some work on the army to bring it up to speed, so that meant the red scorpions getting a first outing as I don't like using models that are not finished.
Designing missions is a part of the hobby that I enjoy & at this points level I don't think the missions from the rulebook work very well.
Plus I like the whole one player is the attacker & the other is the defender.
As I said this style of mission it also great for a game of kill team, where the killteam would have to rescue the hostage.
So how did this one pan out ?
The marines pulled it off by killing the autocannon team & freeing the hostage.
I'd used 3 blips from spacehulk (two 1' & a 3 stealers) & placed  each one face down in a building the one with the 3 on it would be the hostage.
So over all the marines scored 6pts, 5pts for the hostage & one for killing the autocannon team so a solid win for them.
The mission is designed in such away that the attacker first objective should be to rescue the hostage & if he does so wins the game, the other objectives are only for bragging rights.

So winning conditions are,
All other objective but don't free the hostage = draw
Rescue the hostage & none of the other objective = attacker win.
Rescue the hostage & kill one of the two teams solid win.
Rescue the hostage & kill the pysker major win
Complete all the objective crushing win.
Fail to complete any of the objective, I recommend you take up another game lol
So thanks for dropping in I how you found it worth your while & please call back again.
